About this house
Welcome to Franeker’s canal ring. The Wetterhûske holiday home thanks its name from its exceptional location: abutting the water, as it were. This picturesque holiday home dates from 1697. It occupies a highly characteristic spot in the city of Franeker. Originally inhabited by large families, it has now been stylishly converted into a comfortable guesthouse with all mod cons. While every effort has been made to retain the atmosphere of the olden days, the level of convenience is entirely in keeping with modern day standards. A stay in these premises is an experience in itself! It offers you the unique opportunity to briefly get away from the hustle and bustle as a couple.
The cosy yet airy living room, which offers a stunning view over the canal, comprises a snug sitting area with a comfy couch, armchair and a TV with several English TV channels. The side table can easily seat two. The stove and wall behind, which is tiled with ‘witjes’ still made to this day in the traditional manner in Friesland, form a cheerful focal point. The authentic box bed doors conceal a compact kitchen, where you will find everything you need to rustle up your own meals. However, you also have the choice of taking things easy on the culinary front: traditional butchers and a bakery are situated just around the corner.
There is space to sit outside the front of the holiday home during the day, while a sheltered terrace with access to the canal is located at the rear. Simply rent a boat and tie up at the back of the Wetterhûske! Revel in this extraordinary building’s exceptional location!
